Just a Little More Gold

I just discovered a new technique for my Copic markers and I'm so excited!! I have lots of this irridescent gold vellum that I found in packages at my local Big Lots store about a year ago. I haven't used much of it because I'm not a huge vellum fan... but when you find something at a great price you NEED to buy it. Know what I mean?

My new technique is to emboss the vellum on one side then color on the other with copic markers. In this case I used gold embossing powder for the flower petals. The back sides of the petals were colored in streaks with three shades of blue marker. I love how subtle the marker is when showing through - just hints of color even though I used some pretty deep shades! Plus when you combine it with the gold ep it gives is such a pretty effect.

The card base is from The Paper Cut. It comes scalloped so you don't have to mess around with making them yourself. I added gold leaf pen to the outside edges because there just wasn't enough gold on the card yet... lol. I might go back and change the ribbons, but since I'm already late for work that'll have to wait for later. Oh... almost forgot! The light green ribbon was originally white and I colored it a matching green to the stems with my copic marker... what an easy way to always have the "right" shade of ribbon!

Thanks for looking! Let me know what you think!

So gorgeous! My eyes popped when I first saw this! Can't wait to try this technique on some of that vellum that's just languishing on the shelf. Had to have it, but quickly ran out of ideas for it. The gold is stunning, but I bet it would look great with silver or any color. TFS!

I agree with everyone else that this is simply stunning...the colours you've used, the gold embossing, the ribbon...the lot! I have tried colouring vellum a couple of times and it's so nice to do it from behind to create a subtle effect. Saving your card in my faves!

Michelle, I just love this. I have tried to color on my vellum before with my copic markers but the color would just pool and leave waterdrop looking things. So I'm curious to know how you were able to get it to look so smooth and subtle? I wonder if it's just the difference in vellums. Is what you bought very thick? TFS! Cheryl
