I've been on such a retro kick lately... whether it's colors or images I've been really going back to my childhood! This ATC that I just made for a shoebox swap I'm attending this weekend is just pure 70's from the colors to the owl. I colored this li'l guy with a combination of prisma pencils and copic markers. I thought he was too cute to pass up when I was shopping online the other day! He was carefully cut out and popped up on dimensionals along with the saying "You're a Hoot", which was computer generated. I mounted the owl on a retro striped paper in shades of orange and olive and a layer of white that I decorated with black dots. The base is a sanded piece of DCWV textured cardstock.
When I was shopping online a couple of weeks ago I heard words come out of my husbands mouth that I thought I would never hear..... he said "Oh my God... you HAVE to buy that stamp... I don't care what it costs". I think I need to have that engraved somewhere!!! I found this leg/lamp stamp. If any of your have every watched A Christmas Story you'll recognize this! My younger brother loves this movie.... so do we for that matter.... It's usually playing all day long on Christmas Day (TBS plays it for 24 hours straight!) so we end up watching it several times. I swear I have the movie memorized!
I looked up quotes from the movie online the other day and I'm gonna use this for my Christmas Cards next year... that are so many great quotes that go with it... My favorite two are:
Only one thing in the world could've dragged me away from the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window.
- Ralphie in A Christmas Story
"Fra-gee-lay. That must be Italian."
- Mr. Parker in A Christmas Story
What do you think of the owl stamp? Isn't he just the cutest? Do you know what I'm talking about with the Christmas story leg or are you looking at the computer right now like I'm a bit crazy?
Almost forgot... the website that sells these stamps is www.sideshowstamps.com. Check them out, there are some cute retro looking stamps!

Love the owl, your coloring is awesome, great card, OMG, I received that lamp as a Christmas Present, my family knows that Christmas Story is my favorite holiday movie so when they saw the lamp, really I could have done with just the night lite, but they went for the lamp. Must know where you got that. My husband and sister would just die! That will be a must-have for us too!
Oh my! That stamp is soooo fun. We sure do "know" that movie and always watch it several times before christmas day. My 5 year old watched it this year for the first time and the very next day I caught him outside sticking his tongue on the light pole!!! (Lucky for him it didn't stick)
That owl card is fab and totally makes me think of my mom (and her kitchen when I was a kid!)
OMG WHERE did you find that leg stamp??? No...really...where did you find it? My husband is going gaga over it! Memories...what can I say? LOL
"It's a MAJOR award!" :)
very funny leg lamp stamp - now you need to make a card with it!
Love that movie! We have friends that have the actual leg lamp in their living room. I'd laugh so hard if I got a Christmas card with the "electric sex" comment on it.
What a FUN card! Love everything about it!
The 70's never looked better. Love your card.
I'm looking forward to seeing your card with the leg lamp. hehe
OMG! That is too funny! I made a paper mache dress form lamp and my husband told me it reminded him of the leg lamp! It's fabulous...and so are those owls! I love the colors and paper piecing. I have to check them out! Love them!
I used this stamp to create cards for my husband's co-workers. Enclosed in the card, we printed a "family portrait" of the cast members to represent our family (mom, dad, two sons) and our sentiments were semi-quotes taken from the movie. Along with the card, we gave each person the "Christmas Story" dvd. I couldn't believe the positive responses we received because these are men who work in a tire factory. We (my husband and I) are already planning the cards for next Christmas:o) The stamp was very reasonably priced and proved to be a huge success. I hope you have as much fun with it as we did.
Of course we know that leg lamp! My son-in-law bought one, but my daughter refused to let him put it in their living room. Looks great next to his poker table in the basement! It's a classic. Can't wait to see your card.
