Summer Poppies

I just received this new stamp set in the mail from Flourishes. I haven't bought a new stamp set in such a long time I decided to indulge myself and order these Poppies.

The sentiment was stamped on kraft cardstock, then trimmed. I die cut a ribbon slider with my cuttlebug and colored it with Salmon Red Copic Marker to match the color of the poppies. The dotted tafetta ribbon was threaded through the slider and attached to the back of the main layer.

The main layer was stamped with black Memento ink, then colored with 3 shades of red and orange copics. I didn't use any green for the stems and leaves, I used cool grey instead because I didn't want there to be any other "color" except the red. I added white gel pen dots to the flower centers.

When I was done coloring I scored the grid lines with my Scor-pal at 1/2" intervals. I then stamped Linen background stamp inked with Ranger Distress brushed corduroy ink. This layer was trimmed down and mounted on black cardstock that was decorated with white gel pen dots to echo the dots on the ribbon.

I really like some of the stamps from Flourishes - they have GORGEOUS florals! I was a bit disappointed that I paid $6.00 flat rate shipping and the stamps were mailed by 1st class for only $1.51. I expected a flat rate priority package for $6.00! Other than that I found their shipping very fast (it went out the next day) and their packaging very pretty (green tissue paper with a ribbon).

WOW! That is one cool background. Great job! Thanks for a bit of inspiration, as I'll be looking at my background stamps a bit differently next time.
