For The Birds

Today's challenge on SCS is to use birds. Birds are so popular right now - especially owls - so I came up with these 2 projects:
I used the bird stamp from Inkadinkado for this card. The main image was stamped on Basic Grey paper and colored with Copics. I used lots of layers of paper scraps that were in my scrap bin and sewed them together with my sewing machine. I forgot how nice the machine sewn edges look!!

My favorite part of the card is the layer of Mica. The studio that I work in makes lampshades out of mica, so there are boxes of scraps waiting for a use! I brought some home and separated the layers to make it a little more transparant, then trimmed it down on my rotary trimmer. I punched holes in the corners with my crop-a-dile and attached it to another layer with the screw brads. I like the way you can see through the mica to the patterned paper underneath. It was really easy to cut down and manipulate, so I'm definately going to bring more home to play with. I'll also check with my boss to see if he is willing to part with some of the scraps.... so if anyone is interested in some Mica scraps let me know.

The second project was just quickly put together. It's a little key chain for someone moving into a new apartment of house. It's made with a 4x4 coaster cut in half. It was covered with patterned paper, then distressed. The main image was stamped on white, colored with copics and trimmed to fit.

Let me know what you think!

What an awesome card! Love all the details, especially the mica! I worked with that a looong time ago, made a little candle holder. I'd love to have some scraps of it...does this show you my email address? Ill check back later too.

What a cute idea for a keychain too. You have such neat ideas! And then have the talent to make them wonderful creations.

Love the card and the keychain is such a clever idea! I just saw that Inkadinkadoo stamp set today and really liked the owl in it. As for the mica...I'd LOVE some! When you wrote that your work had scraps of it, I thought, "I wonder if she could use some as blog candy? I love mica!" Then you asked if anyone was interested in getting some, if possible. So count me in as a yes!

Hey, girl---how are you?!?! It's been way too long since I've left a comment for you---these are both so adorable! (Like everything you create!) I love the look of the image stamped on colored paper and then colored in---you've inspired me to try it! You always have such imaginitive, fun ideas, and the mica is no exception! If you have a spare scrap or two of mica, I'd love to play too. (And I'll just have to send you a little goodie in return as a thank-you.) We all think you rock, ya' know that?!?!
Have a great day, hon'!! Hugs to you! Pam (4Hounds)
