I was reading Tim Holtz's blog again this morning since he's doing the 12 tags of Christmas series and was totally inspired again to crawl (not just think) outside of my box and do something a little bit different.
This card is an accordian card made with a 5.5 x 12 sheet of textured cardstock (DCWV). I scored it at 4.25", 7.5", and 11". The last 1" is flipped over to the front and secured with a ribbon by punching holes with my Fiskars Weaver punch.
I used a SU felt flower and inked it with Versamark, then embossed it with Gold Glory ep. I did this twice to make sure I had good coverage. I like how much of the felt texture still shows up under the embossing. I then added a large adhesive rhinestone to the center and Hot Fix crystals to the outer edges. These were applied by a Kandi Corp hot fix applicator - a cool little tool that heats up in 30 seconds and applies the rhinestones by melting the glue that is on the back. It's nice and neat and easier than glue!
The vanilla snowflake background was my Tim HOltz inspiration. I used a sheet of glossy white cardstock and inked the entire side with Brushed Corduroy distress ink. I then stamped the snowflakes in versamark and embossed with clear ep. Over the top I applied a layer of vanilla acrylic paint with a sponge brush. Once it was dried I took a wet rag and cleaned the paint off of the embossed images. Pretty cool, huh?
Since the front of the card was pretty distressed I felt that the inside should be grunged up a bit too. I used some Ranger Crackle paint in Burlap and painted the edges of the vanilla cardstock. I sped up the drying process with my heat gun... works just fine! I then used a little brown ink to darken the paint and applied gold over the top. The edges were run through a Heidi Swapp distressor.

I too hve been reading along with Tim's blog. I'm lakcing in most of the resources but it doesn't stop the inspiration and pure awe... I think you captured the technique in the background... really nifty!!

Wow! This is great! I never would have thought about embossing on felt...I probably would end up with a melted mass of (?) :) I love all the details in this.

Unbelievably beautiful! I think I will have to try this because I have the whole distressing kit, but maybe after the holidays when my own 30 Christmas cards are done!
I've been tracking Tim's blog too, and I love what you did with ginormous snowflake center. And the gold tone is beautiful. I liked the chocolate snowflake card, and I love this one.
