Dirty Girl Challenge

A few weeks ago when these cute little Elzybell stamps debuted, Jami issued a dirty girl challenge to all present and past DD's. The challenge was to make a card using the "Winter's Song" stamp set, use Pretty in Pink somewhere on the card, and to use NO DESIGNER PAPER!
Those of you who know my card style should know how hard it was not to use DP on this.... I love designer paper!

-My first card attempt was this white and pink one... I really liked how the ribbons turned out at the bottom, but that was really the only think I liked. It was a little too plain (for me anyways) with the plain white backgroud. I look at some of my favorite designers that do simple cards and I'm in awe... when I try to leave just a white background it just looks boring. I was just upload it for the challenge even though I wasn't happy with it.... but then I read the color challenge for the week and saw that it was Wasabi, Pink and White..... so I promptly ripped off the image and embellishments from this one and started over....

-I was happier with the second card almost as soon as I started making it - the added green was the difference for me! Since I reused the image I didn't have to take the time to color and mount it, so it was just coming up with the layout. I just bought the wavy friskers blade at the store, so I took the opportunity to make some wavy layers for this card. I may have gotton a little out of hand... there are alot of waves here!! I added the ribbon in an "X" across the front, I dont' know if I've ever done it quite like that before, but I like how it turned out... a little different! The snowflakes were stamped on green paper and embossed with white EP, I added gold ice Stickles to give them sparkle.

-

Now the BIG question.... which one do you like better? I think it's time for some BLOG CANDY again.... it's been awhile!! To win, simply leave a comment on which of these 2 cards you like better and why.... I will pick a random winner in the next few days. The prize will be a surprise!

Also a big thanks to Julie Buhler to the new Blog Banner she made for me!!! Isn't it great???

Both cards are beautiful! I like the first one best because it's a little more simple. I also like that it's assymetrical.

I really prefer the cleaner lines and the simplicity of the first card. I find that they set off the little "Elzybelle" image better. I also like the ribbons better, as they are more airy, like a snowflake, and lighthearted, like a winter song should be. Wonderful work on both cards. I'm sure the other one appeals to just as many people.

Oh my both are so nice ... and I love the addition of the green too. The wavey edges are great and I love the layers. That said, you might be surprised that I like the first one best, but I think it's becuase it makes me think of my niece when she was 3 (all that pink is sooooo pretty and it's so simple and innocent looking!). She is now 10 and has started rubber stamping and making cards like Auntie. (yes!!!) Thanks for sharing both fabulous pieces.

I always love your cards, so they are both great...but, I do like the second one best. I like the "more is better" attitude.

I love the second card better. . .love the combo of the green and the pink! Something about that one just grabs me.

Love the look of your new blog as well. Very cool! Thanks for sharing your inspirations with us!

both cards are adorable, but i like the first one. i like the sweetness of the pink and the ribbon detail in the corner.

thanks for the chance to win! :)

I prefer the first card because it has a cleaner, more simple look, which I prefer. I also prefer the color combination of the first card over the second.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

I love both cards (especially the white embossed snowflakes on the second one), but my favorite is the first one. Why? Because all the pink makes it "soft" looking and that mood fits well with the little girl in the stamp. You are my favorite stamper, though, because I just love all your projects! I love all the details and extras you add!

I love the 1st card. I'm a simple girl!!! Plus I love that bow!

I love the green as it is so much more alive and it jumps right off the card! Excellent job.

I love both cards, but the pink card is my fave. It looks frosty and sweet and reminds me of winter! Not sure why pink reminds me of winter, lol but it does!

My choice is for the first card. For me I find the wavy line a little distracting from the main image. You do great work all the time, great new banner too from Julie. Darlene

Both are nice, but I prefer the first one. I'm not sure if it's the simplicity of it or the angularness (is that a word?) of it.....

Kelly Schelske said...

MM, I love them both, but I really love the second one...not sure exactly why though...maybe the wavy edges...and I love your banner by Julie, it's awesome!!

I was going to comment even before there was blog candy involved. Who knew LOL! I just absolutely LOVE your second card. I like both, but the second one just gave me this WOW impression. Love the diagonal ribbon and the swirly layers of paper. Thanks for sharing!

Gosh, I seem to be in the minority here, I LOVE the second card! I haven't left a comment on your blog for a long time, but I still do visit whenever you post. Hope all is well with you!

The second is my favorite. First off my fav color is green,,,,go figure..and I really like the grosgrain on it. It gives it the feel of more substance...if that makes any sense. I guess everyone likes something different, that's what makes up individuals, right. And this card just nailed it for me....I am half tempted to include my addy with a shameless plea to be put on your xmas card list so I can get one....LOL It is just screaming ME! I guess I will have to try the next best thing (to begging that is) and case it...LOL
Thanks for the inspiration, have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Thanks for offering a chance to win blog candy...that's so fun too!

I like the 2nd one as it's more unique. I like how you criss crossed the ribbon and it's cute in green. I usually see everyone making this image in pink, so the green is a fun change.

Beautiful cards, as always. I do however like the first one better. It's less "cluttered" and therefore you pay attention to the actual stamped image rather than all the extras on the card.

Tee said...

I love the 2nd one.. the first one simplicity in itself but the 2nd is a risk desgin and works fabulously. Love the 2nd one..

The wave pattern just pulls it all together.

I like the second card, even though it has too much on it - don't care for the ribbon that crosses behind the Elzybell - the first one was just too plain - it didn't have any *uuummmpphh* to it!

Anonymous said...

I like the second card better than the first, but I would probably like it even more if there were a little less of the curves, like you mentioned. Both very cute, though!

Anonymous said...

OMG...it's too hard to choose a favourite...they are both beautiful. If I had to choose one I would say the 2nd card because I love how bright and cheery it is...I love that green colour!

Great job on both of them - thanks so much for sharing!
