Black for Contrast

It's been awhile since I participated in SCS challenges - so I put aside a little time today to make these 2 cards for the sketch challenge. I pulled out some black paper to use as a contrast for both of these cards - I particularly like the way the black looks on the crab card.

-
Card #1 - This card was made with Basic Grey paper from the Romani collection - I wanted to use some bold papers for this one and add black and vanilla as my neutrals. The flowers are from Delight in Life from sellabration time. The flowers from this set are so easy to work with!

Card #2 was made with that same K&Company paper I've been raving about for the last couple of posts. I'm a bit obsessive, and when I find something I like.... I'll keep using it until I'm sick of it! I dug out some black paper today to matte all my layers on - I love the contrast with the soft colors of the crab card. The Maryland blue crab was colored with watercolor crayons - I looked up Blue Crabs on the internet to make sure it was correct! The little gifts were stamped on the designer paper and trimmed down, then popped up on dimensionals.
-
Tommorrow I'm going to do a tutorial on the ribbon butterfly that I used on the Martha card from a few posts ago. So don't forget to check back then!

They are both beautiful! I love the first one because I almost didn't recognize the flower stamps. I love when that happens because it means new ideas for me!

Such beautiful cards Michelle! I swear that I can pick out one of your creations on the SCS gallery without seeing your name! Your cards always have such a distinctive sunny personality that set them apart and make them stand out.

Those are both adorable Michelle! The black really makes those bright colors pop! I managed to do two for today's challenge as well. It was such an interesting sketch.

Michelle,

Just wanted to let you know that I am from Maryland and you did a great job with the crab. In real life the blue is very vivid (almost electric)!

Your flowered card is BEAUTIFUL! I love the sentiment on the scalloped oval, instead of using it for your image. Great look!

What great cards! I especially love the 1st one with the BG Romani paper - the black matting is unbelievable, and now I'm sorry I didn't get Delight in Life! Thanks for all of your inspiration!
